Expand Team Fortress 2 and GameOverlayUI.exe

Haha, this is going to get old quick..

Last night, after successfully installing all these great applications and making sure that they were fully functional on my 64-bit operating system, my Steam download of Team Fortress 2 was just finishing up. This was really the moment of truth you see, because if my computer can't run games, it's ultimately useless to me.

It got pretty scary at that point though, because as soon as I launched the game it started hanging. Shortly after the hanging, came the crashing. I almost cried a little bit and really thought it was over. I tried again and experienced the same result. I did some Googling and couldn't find any other people discussing similar incompatibilities between Vista x64 and Team Fortress 2. The first two times I had clicked the black screen and immediately got the "This Application is Hung" message, so I decided to give it one last try and not click anything this time around.

Trying it the third time, it ended up in some seemingly endless loop of black screen flickering. I waited as long as I could and then instead of killing the application, I checked Task Manager. I noticed "GameOverlayUI.exe" was running and at first glance, I assumed it was some awful side-effect of using the Vista Aero theme. I killed it immediately and as soon as I alt-tabbed back into Team Fortress 2, all was well again.

Upon further investigation it seems GameOverlayUI.exe is a part of Steam. Steam could be the greatest things to happen to PC Gaming since the development of arcade and console emulators back in the 90s. This is the first time Steam has wronged me -- let's hope it's the last.
